FER 2 - 5 Grilled
Clouds darkened the skies at the stadium today. They fielded:
Miajevich -
Meillasson,
Quintiliano -
Hint,
Velkeniers,
Zinn,
Mózner,
Lacys -
Matarrese,
Maccaferri,
Beckers.
The following players had been selected:
Dob -
Webb,
Panigrahi -
Künzler,
Mohammad Harun,
Muthyala,
Xin Seng,
Xin Lee -
Ze Han,
Egan,
Mudaliar.
Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. FER demonstrated their creative tactics on the field. Not surprisingly, FER's bench was visibly upset when, with 23 minutes played,
Chu Xin Lee almost fumbled the ball into his own net!
Edwin Zinn's Road Runneresque speed was too much for
Gilbert Webb, who could only look on as the FER player blasted one home. 1 - 0. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng was shown a yellow card after 31 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
A run up the right wing paid off for Grilled as
Bernie Egan hit a wicked shot past the keeper to tie the game. 1 - 1 after 33 minutes. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 34 minutes on the clock after
Settimio Maccaferri's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the FER player a yellow card though. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 35 minutes allowed
Moey Xin Seng to score for Grilled. The visitors have the lead, 1 - 2. 43 minutes into the game, Grilled worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. The visitors'
Vikram Mudaliar took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 44 minutes into the match. 1 - 3 for Grilled. Halftime score was 1 - 3. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 57 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Grilled's
Bernie Egan received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 50 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 1 - 4. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but
Vikram Mudaliar was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 56 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Grilled's
Neeraj Muthyala finally got himself booked for a foul. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Moey Xin Seng reluctantly made way for
Kalki Parvathaneni. The Grilled captaincy was handed to
Chan Ze Han.
Kornél Mózner's well-known speed was on display as he darted past his defender and sent a beautiful pass through the defender’s legs to
Settimio Maccaferri who scored the 2 - 4 goal. After 72 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Chan Ze Han who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 5. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by
Bernie Egan beat the keeper with 73 minutes played, preventing Grilled from going up another goal. With 78 minutes played, FER's
Ken Meillasson received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. With the scoreboard showing that 79 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Bernie Egan came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Heng Dong Chu came on for
Chu Xin Lee. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Bernie Egan gave
Prokop Mottl a quick hug as he left the field. The fourth official announced that there would be 4 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 2 - 5. Well, look at this! Nikki Minaj is on the Jumbotron in naught but pink lipstick, soccer balls, and a Ben Nevis of platinum hair. I've not seen anything like it before. She's not got enough room inside her for a rheumatic pain. Can you hear her? FER's best player was
Gilan Beckers. I can't remember
Erkki Hint ever having a worse night than he just had. Most important Grilled player was
Chan Ze Han. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Bhavya Panigrahi sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
