It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-4-1 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. 8&8 has displayed passable talent to press and shut down attacks all over the field. 0 - 1 was the score after 2 minutes, when Grilled's
Bernie Egan cut through the central defense and pounded one in. At this time in the match, 8&8 were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Grilled goal with 30 minutes gone, making it 0 - 2.
Kalki Parvathaneni was noted down as the scorer. The away team's
Moey Xin Seng took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 31 minutes increasing Grilled's lead to 0 - 3.
Kalki Parvathaneni's Road Runneresque speed was too much for
Joël Garnier, who could only look on as the Grilled player blasted one home. 0 - 4. Grilled already had the lead, so
Moey Xin Seng probably won't be too disappointed that his speculative shot from the right 33 minutes in fell wide of the goal. The referee showed 8&8's
Ernesto Alcalá the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. Nikki Minaj appeared on the Jumbotron wearing pink lipstick, a towering pile of platinum-white hair, and a pair of soccer balls. With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Bhavya Panigrahi, though he would have liked to continue. Grilled increased the lead to 0 - 5 as
Cyril Künzler scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in the top left corner. The visitors'
Kalki Parvathaneni took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 55 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Grilled. He'd already scored two, and with the third,
Kalki Parvathaneni had a hattrick! 8&8 pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a deadlock at times. After 64 minutes, Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 7. The incalculable
Rudi Bakx of 8&8 did everything right as he set up
Faraz Farhikhteh for a goal after 65 minutes. Unfortunately, the strike missed its target. After 68 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Gilbert Webb who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 8. After 75 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Bernie Egan off.
Chan Ze Han took his place. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Vikram Mudaliar reluctantly made way for
Islom Davlatov. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 0 - 8. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 83 percent possession in this half was spot on!
8&8's best player was
Faraz Farhikhteh. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Yonas De Ruyver today.
Kalki Parvathaneni performed admirably for Grilled. Good thing
Bhavya Panigrahi isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
