Earthquakes 1 - 3 Grilled
A scorching day at
Ground Zero, where 50432 spectators were in place for today's match.
Hamza Benzaoui was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jan-Okko de Kok and
Giorgio Medeot. It was a very hot day and some players suffered from this, especially those relying on tough physical play or a lot of fast runs. For the technical ones, on the other hand, this was ideal conditions. People from all over Jurong had joined up for the derby. Lineup:

Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Earthquakes showed off their magical creative tactics. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+4) level with that tactic. 4 minutes into the game,
Moey Xin Seng almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 5 minutes in when
Kalki Parvathaneni came up alone against
Valentin Mrejeru who managed a block. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when
Chan Ze Han was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 16 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead!
Bernie Egan came close to putting the visiting team one up 24 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Valentin Mrejeru managed to tip the ball to a corner. The visiting
Moey Xin Seng was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 25 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Grilled had most of the ball, with 71 percent of possession.
Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
Chan Ze Han came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
Valentin Mrejeru but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. 65 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Moey Xin Seng gave
Vikram Mudaliar a quick hug as he left the field. 65 minutes into the match, Earthquakes's
Zhan Tze Choon maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 1 - 1.
Wee Chuan Han really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by
Cndido Cardozo after a corner. 1 - 2 was the score with 67 minutes played, after
Kalki Parvathaneni cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Grilled. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 70 minutes, Grilled did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
Chan Ze Han was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 3. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 71 minutes into the match,
Bernie Egan came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Kalki Parvathaneni off the field.
Islom Davlatov took his place. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minute of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 1 - 3. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.
Most important Earthquakes player was
Yohann Delaunay.
Zhan Tze Choon on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Islom Davlatov.
Bhavya Panigrahi turned in a dismal performance, however.
