Grilled 3 - 4 Singapore
73793 fans braved the pouring rain at
Singa Arena.
Ignacio Vivo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Benedetto Tovazzi and
Jochum Oosterhagen. The arena management had taken the extraordinary decision to boost some sections with temporary seats in order to guarantee every fan a place in the stadium.
While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The match took place on neutral ground. They fielded:
Dob -
Webb,

Mudaliar,
Ze Han,
Xin Seng,
Muthyala -
Mohammad Harun,
Egan,
Parvathaneni.
The following players took the field:
Frick -
Giammarinaro,
Delmotte,
Harmoinen,
Poissonnet -
Zirkowitsch,
Tze Seng,
Rolim,
Kok Aik -
Dembl,

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas FC Barca Singapore lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+3) level with that tactic. Singapore were relying on their mythical ability to counter-attack.
Francis Poissonnet came close to putting the visiting team one up 29 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Massoud Dob managed to tip the ball to a corner.
Neeraj Muthyala was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
Moey Xin Seng seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. Making his way up the middle 33 minutes into the match,
Gilbert Webb almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Roger Frick blocked it to keep the score level. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Singapore's
Liow Kok Aik after 35 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. Grilled put pressure on the visitors' central defence 36 minutes into the game, but
Vikram Mudaliar couldn't find an opening.
Liow Kok Aik was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from Singapore's defence 37 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 2. Grilled refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle,
Islom Davlatov managed to slip the ball home for 1 - 2. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Grilled had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
Kalki Parvathaneni went down after twisting his left ankle after 49 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. The replacement for the injured player was
Prokop Mottl. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Grilled tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. After 72 minutes of play,
Prokop Mottl evened things up for Grilled with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2. Having taken a hard knock between his legs,
Prokop Mottl limped off the pitch in a reduced state of dignity. He could not continue, managing only 73 minutes for his team this day.
Cyril Knzler tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day.
Cyril Knzler made a nice dash down the wing after 78 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded. With the scoreboard clock showing 82 minutes, the inexperienced Grilled team fell into disarray. Many thought
Gilbert Webb ought to have been awarded a penalty 85 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
Roger Frick after a determined run through the middle.
Mok Tze Seng stunned the crowd with a brilliant counterattack from the left, giving Singapore the goal to make it 2 - 3. The home crowd was not impressed when
Norbert Greimel came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 87 minutes. Singapore were now up 2 - 4. In the lead, Singapore adjusted their style of play with 88 minutes gone. The home team's supporters got excited again when
Chan Ze Han broke through the visitors' central defence and caught their keeper off guard, making it 3 - 4. The referee announced 4 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 3 - 4. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
Moey Xin Seng performed admirably for Grilled.
Islom Davlatov was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Singapore player was without a doubt
Norbert Greimel. On the other hand,
Mario Delmotte's play was disheartening.
