Grilled 0 - 5 Earthquakes
45188 spectators had found their way to
The Cooking Pot, despite the heavy rain.
Ferdynand Grolik was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Enrique Chaparro and
Sharif Al Imam. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Jurong derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. The following players took the field:
Dob -
Webb,
Panigrahi -
Parvathaneni,
Davlatov,
Mohammad Harun,
Muthyala,
Dong Chu -
Ze Han,
Mudaliar,
Xin Seng.
They fielded:
Mrejeru -
Cheng Hui,
Chuan Han,
Rong Jing,
Cardozo,
Yew Yew -
Johnson,
Borch -
Delaunay,
Kiriwawanvu,
Gassenmeyer.
The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Grilled Birds went for 2-5-3 while Batok Earthquakes has decided to play a 5-2-3 lineup. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+4) ability to attack in the middle. Earthquakes were relying on their divine ability to counter-attack. Making his way up the middle 18 minutes into the match,
Vikram Mudaliar almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Valentin Mrejeru blocked it to keep the score level. Grilled had a good opportunity to take the lead as
Bhavya Panigrahi came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
Valentin Mrejeru. Earthquakes showed their counterattack skill 20 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
Kirk Johnson scoring uncontested for 0 - 1. Earthquakes's
Sörren Gassenmeyer was shown a yellow card after 21 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Vikram Mudaliar from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 24 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Bilal Mohammad Harun charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Grilled, but the shot went well wide of the goal. After 31 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Yohann Delaunay a chance to increase the lead for Earthquakes, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 72 percent of possession.
After 52 minutes,
Chan Ze Han had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for Grilled with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar. After 53 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Earthquakes on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by
Yohann Delaunay to make it 0 - 3. Clever play that showed his experience gave
Yohann Delaunay a good chance to score, but the shot hit the crossbar. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as
Vikram Mudaliar tried lifting the ball over keeper
Valentin Mrejeru. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi had the ball at his feet in front of goal after a quickly taken free kick after 80 minutes, but was robbed of it in the blink of an eye by an onrushing defender.
Lim Cheng Hui was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from Earthquakes's defence 81 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 4. 85 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) came on for
Bhavya Panigrahi. With
Bhavya Panigrahi no longer on the pitch,
Gilbert Webb became the new set pieces taker. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Kalki Parvathaneni reluctantly made way for
Cyril Künzler on the pitch. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes.
Sörren Gassenmeyer showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Earthquakes after 90 minutes to make the score 0 - 5. The match ends 0 - 5. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 72 percent.
The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Vikram Mudaliar.
Cyril Künzler on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Earthquakes player was
Ronald Kiriwawanvu.
Wee Chuan Han was a disappointment, however.
