Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, Singapore Big Dogs, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+4) level with that tactic. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Singapore on this day, taking advantage of their outstanding level with that tactic. A lovely run by Grilled's
Cyril Künzler left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
Tay Ting Lee got himself booked. The manager of Singapore was not happy. Singapore's
Dietrich Venzin gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 18 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
Chan Ze Han showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 26 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away. They were singing the praises of
Islom Davlatov 32 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to Grilled. Grilled's
Heng Dong Chu swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 62 percent of the ball.
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Islom Davlatov gave
Vikram Mudaliar a quick hug as he left the field. With 61 minutes played,
Gilbert Webb could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
Moey Xin Seng squirmed through their central defence after 69 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1. Grilled solidified their lead at the 70 minute mark, as
Chan Ze Han dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 1.
Cyril Künzler should probably have put his team up another goal after 76 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by
Wicaksana Mabenda kept the visitors in the game. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) came on for
Bhavya Panigrahi. Singapore's
Tomas Svensson showed off his trademark ability to do the unexpected with a tricky pass after 81 minutes. Unfortunately,
Deng Yew Leong was startled by the play and wasn't able to control the finish. The home side's
Vikram Mudaliar came close to extending the lead 83 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
Wicaksana Mabenda managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Heng Dong Chu off the field.
Prokop Mottl took his place. The referee announced 1 minute of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 4 - 1. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 63 percent.
Grilled's best player was
Moey Xin Seng. On the other hand,
Prokop Mottl's play was disheartening.
Deng Yew Leong performed admirably for Singapore. However,
René Hofer made a disastrous appearance.
