Pablo Cesar Taranto charged down the left and looked sure to score for Payoh 31 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. Grilled had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Bhavya Panigrahi came on for 悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita). After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Islom Davlatov off the field. Bernie Egan took his place. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Payoh's top performer was clearly Jerry Lim. On the other hand, Henning Prutky's play was disheartening. Grilled's best player was Moey Xin Seng. Bhavya Panigrahi was a disappointment, however.
