BuddyBoys 5 - 2 Grilled

It had rained all day, but 56396 hardy fans still made it out to Olympic Lyons Park. Alfonso Jado was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marco Gurrea and Taha Raed Al-Zaidy. If I am correctly informed, temporary seats had been added in sections throughout the arena, and this had enabled the organisers to sell 334 extra tickets. The rain was pouring down, it was the kind of weather favoured by strong players who stick to simple football. For players possessing of speed or technical skills, the day really was as grim as for everyone else. The match took place on neutral ground. Starters: Espinoza - Şişcu, De Pauli, Refvik, Al-Mazrooy, Dusen - Schulte-Holthaus, Šablatúra, Fogl - Mutumba, MacCleary.

The following players took the field: Dob - Trung Quá, Davlatov - Egan, Mudaliar, Ze Han, Parvathaneni, Xin Lee - Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun, Muthyala.

BuddyBoys started the game in a 5-3-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. For their match strategy, BuddyBoys had decided to use their divine (+1) ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+3) level with that tactic. 16 minutes into the game, Neeraj Muthyala almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The goal to make it 1 - 0 was scored by Matthew MacCleary after 17 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by BuddyBoys. With 25 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after Kalki Parvathaneni came through the middle, but his shot went wide. Joshua Mutumba showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for BuddyBoys after 30 minutes to make the score 2 - 0. The visitors got a chance to pull one back after 32 minutes, as the home defence went to sleep, leaving Chu Xin Lee completely unmarked in the middle. His strike was pathetic though, and dribbled into the arms of the home side's keeper. Fabrizio De Pauli got left behind when Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni left scorch marks in the turf 32 minutes, finishing off with a blisteringly swift strike. 2-1! 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Grilled had most of the ball, with 66 percent of possession.

As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Islom Davlatov reluctantly made way for Bhavya Panigrahi on the pitch. 56 minutes into the match, the speedy Bernie Egan easily outpaced Röbi Dusen, chipped the keeper and made the score 2 - 2. Down the middle came Bilal Mohammad Harun, making a fantastic play that nearly had Grilled take the lead after 62 minutes, but Alonso Espinoza preserved the tie. BuddyBoys played a good counterattacking move down the left 63 minutes into the match, with Abdulbaqy Zakariya Al-Mazrooy finishing well for 3 - 2. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 69 minutes, Bilal Mohammad Harun broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper. Alonso Espinoza made a great block, though. Coming in from the right, BuddyBoys had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 70 minutes, but Tom Schulte-Holthaus's attempt to finish was easily stopped. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 75 minutes into the match after a good combination through the middle, but when Moey Xin Seng tried to finish the attack, he couldn't get enough power on the shot to seriously challenge the keeper. BuddyBoys increased the lead as Erlend Refvik struck to make the score 4 - 2 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. 80 minutes in, Bernie Egan made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but Alonso Espinoza refused to let the ball slip by him. With 81 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of BuddyBoys resulted in a counterattack that set Matthew MacCleary free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. BuddyBoys's Röbi Dusen increased the lead to 5 - 2, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 82 minutes. Chu Xin Lee would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Cyril Künzler entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 5 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 66 percent of the ball.

Matthew MacCleary performed admirably for BuddyBoys. Joshua Mutumba was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt Moey Xin Seng. Hoàng Trung Quá on the other hand, had a terrible day.
