Avenged Threefold
Farmer Bunnies crashed out of The Global Trophy as most expected, with Bulgarian third division side Dark Avenger simply too good for them. Unlikely as it might now appear, though, the Buns managed to monopolise the best openings of the first half, amassing no less than four clear chances.
Tham Leng Teck probably came closest with his power header after
Vishnu Tallapaka glanced a corner to him, but it came back off the angle between crossbar and post.
The Buns would have to pay for such profligacy eventually, and the Avengers smashed through on their first clear attempt, with Vasil Lozanov soaring above the newly-arrived
Sarkis Krikoryan to convert a corner. Striker Boris Chernev then notched another with deadly accuracy a minute later, while Tham continued fluffing his efforts. An 87th minute penalty, given for desperate pants-grabbing from Tallapaka, was then placed home by Mario Nazarov to seal it.
Kwek Yun Jie, who did his duty on the left side, could only bemoan Bunnies not taking their chances. "Dark Avenger didn't exceed our estimations for the most part, but we definitely could have done better in front of goal. Anyway, it's all moot now."
