Foo To Senegal
A trip off the beaten path awaited 17 year-old Chicken Wings defender Foo Yong Fu, who was recruited by Senegalese Division Three side Alcaide FC to the tune of S$626000 as their new Number Twenty-one.
The pacy centreback was on the shortlist of many clubs, in particular Portuguese Division Four side Aviosenses, who were looking to replace Bruneian trainee Mohd Noor bin Hj Seruji. Others in the hunt were Crni musketir (Slovenian Division Five), Real Forst (Swiss Division Six), CC Monica (Dutch Division Five), SK Svelgen (Tanzanian Division Three), Juventus Stars F.C. (Hungarian Division Six), WS Legia (South African Division Three) and the Geylang-based Joker 9B.
Scout Lim Hock Puay, who discovered Foo representing his secondary school in a C Division tournament, reiterated that his recruit was marked for greatness. "Despite the lack of formal coaching, he was a natural in the tackle, and brave too. If he continues working hard, we might yet see him in national colours."
There were slightly fewer bells and whistles for 18 year-old winger Teo Heng Wan, who moved to mosueinashuebox on a free transfer on the same day, but he did feature for his new club against Suiza - Honduras almost immediately after.
