Stars's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The visiting team's G. Filippone was able to score the 2 - 2 equaliser with a header 30 minutes into the match, after some good work on the right. 2 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Stars pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. It was a bad day for the usually speedy C. Ying Lee. The mud seemed to slow him down. M. bin Mohd Kassim wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 85 minutes into the game by C. bin Sabtu.
