Yew 1 - 4 Grilled

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 44839 at Tea Lovers' Joint today. Olaf Aader was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bruno Quelet and Enzo Milazzo. All of Jurong was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby. Yew decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: San Gil Cortázar - Denis, Arévalo Morales, Talamonti - Baliev, Quesada, Rancke, Toniollo, Zreeqat - Koskela, Gulbrandsen.

A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. The following players took the field: Tian Han - 福泉 (Fuquan) , bin Ahmad - Ping Shun, 长春 (Changchun), Shun An, Jing Wei, Filippone - bin Mohd Kassim, Ying Lee, 勇航 (Yonghang).

Yew were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. After 3 minutes, following yet another great corner, X. Quesada's flick on at the near post reached O. Zreeqat, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Grilled's M. bin Mohd Kassim after 14 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. After 19 minutes, Grilled surprised their opponents with a breakaway counter attack. The defenders had to resort to a foul to stop it. The free kick that followed was a clever indirect effort that almost succeeded, but the defence read the situation well and the intended recipient was left ruing what might have been. After 20 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed Z. Jing Wei to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. W. Shun An was, after 21 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper D. San Gil Cortázar made the save. After 22 minutes, Yew sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached D. Baliev, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 2. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, G. Filippone got himself booked. The manager of Grilled was not happy. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 57 percent of the time.

With 55 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed 田. 勇航 (Yonghang) of Grilled to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 3. M. bin Mohd Kassim of Grilled seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 4 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by W. Ping Shun. After 72 minutes, Yew's L. Koskela fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Grilled came close to extending their lead as W. Shun An delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 75 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let Q. Madaini replace R. bin Ahmad after 88 minutes. 凌. 福泉 (Fuquan) left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 88 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. N. Vandeneynde was the replacement. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 59 percent of the ball.

Most important Yew player was T. Gulbrandsen. On the other hand, O. Zreeqat's play was disheartening. 田. 勇航 (Yonghang) performed admirably for Grilled. However, N. Vandeneynde made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 4.
