Yew 4 - 3 Grilled

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Tea Lovers' Joint saw a crowd turnout of 37326. Hendrik Maltzahn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Eddy Treffer and Concetto De Maria. All of Jurong was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby. Yew had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Starters: San Gil Cortázar - Denis, Arévalo Morales, Talamonti - Baliev, Quesada, Rancke, Hodzelmans, Zreeqat - Koskela, Gulbrandsen.

Grilled decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. They fielded: Tian Han - Filippone, Madaini - Aik Jia, 长春 (Changchun), Shun An, Jing Wei, bin Jantan - bin Mohd Kassim, Ying Lee, 勇航 (Yonghang).

The wings were the focus of most of Yew's attacks today. Grilled took the lead 4 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. 田. 勇航 (Yonghang) was the scorer. Grilled's A. bin Jantan had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 21 minutes having been played. G. Dorogan was the replacement. In a rapid move 31 minutes into the match, O. Zreeqat of Yew lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked L. Koskela who easily hit it home to make it 1 - 1. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave G. Dorogan from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 32 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Making his way up the middle 36 minutes into the match, K. Denis almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert W. Tian Han blocked it to keep the score level. After 40 minutes, Grilled's L. Aik Jia made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Yew's X. Quesada came in from the right after 41 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 2 - 2. It was 2 - 2 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Yew, with 53 percent of the ball.

Yew had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead. After 52 minutes of play, R. Arévalo Morales gave the home team a 3 - 2 lead after an attack coming in from the right. 60 minutes into the match the visitors levelled the score at 3 - 3 as W. Shun An struck home from a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from the right. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to D. Baliev, but the Yew player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 4 - 3! Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Grilled's G. Filippone was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 88 minutes. R. bin Ahmad was given a chance to change things around. Yew had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.

L. Koskela performed admirably for Yew. On the other hand, K. Denis's play was disheartening. Grilled's best player was 田. 勇航 (Yonghang) . G. Dorogan was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 3.
