Iversen Lure Zahin
17 year-old academy playmaker Zahin Abdul Ghaffar Farhan scored a S$596000 transfer to former Danish Cup winner FC Iversen, an opportunity that had the Wings star speechless. Italian Division Nine side Asr Milano submitted a comparable offer, while local Woodlands side Overture Football Club were hopeful too, but FC Iversen handsomely followed through on their initial S$560000 offer to drill home their seriousness about taking Zahin on.
Senior youth scout Tham Beng Li, who adds Zahin to the ranks of those he has nutured into a professional footballer, didn't mince his words. "The boy can make the national setup, if he keeps working hard." Tham prophesied. "It's all up to him."
His teammates back in the Chicken Wings were of a similar opinion. "Zahin's a quiet one, and maybe you don't notice him much even on the pitch, but we just have that assurance when he's playing." Hubert Gum said. "Come to think about it, he's a bit like Carrick - only truly appreciated when he's gone."
Tham backed Gum's assessment. "At these levels, it's the flashy dribblers who stand out. Zahin doesn't do much of that even though he's capable of it. With him, it's pass and move, and pass again. Very effective, very little wasted effort."
"The side will be weakened further when Oliver Wing leaves in a couple of weeks, though his younger brother Robbie Wing is settling in well. Kazuto Hoshi's another good one that will be promoting soon, but he's had some bad luck with injuries. Then again, it's a good problem to have, and with all the pace here, I think we can hold out till the end of the season."
