Chan Wings It
18 year-old Chan Siong Meng overcame a late introduction to football by snagging a S$24000 transfer to rising Turkish Division Eight club KarsSporFC. The club have won six in a row leading up to the trade, a sign that their million-dollar rejuvenation program may be bearing fruit.
Chan, who has been rated by senior scout Lim Hock Puay as one of the Chicken Wings' top winger prospects for awhile, also attracted bids from Kirbis (Latvian Division Six), Fc Rosarien (German Division Eight), Kwarasan Boys (Dutch Division Five), US PonteVecchio, RobbuskiTeam FC (both Italian Division Ten), S.K. Groen-Wit (Belgian Division Seven) and ESSEVée Roeselare (Belgian Division Six).
Despite being sought after by eight sides and scoring in his farewell youth game against Freezer, the new professional had his head firmly on his shoulders. "It's a great encouragement, and I've to thank all my coaches back at the Wings for this." Chan said. "Tell Tan (Keng Kuan) he'll make it too!"
