Chicken Wings defender Gay Tze Kok, who had just celebrated his seventeenth birthday several days before, signed on for Danish Division Four club FC København on a deal worth S$154000 to Grilled, and cut a confident figure newly-fitted out in their all white with blue trim, with the squad number 23 on his back.
Youth scout Mok Feng De knew he had a gem on his hands when he saw Gay patrolling the defence for his secondary school. "He had an assurance seldom seen among kids, and instead of running all over, he simply knew where to stand." Mok remembered.
"Personally, I'm slightly disappointed that local side Spartanx United didn't manage to get Gay, since I'm all for more good youngsters plying their trade here; however, Europe can be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I completely understand why he chose to go."
