Shining decided to use a 5-2-3 set up. They fielded: Nakip - Duggan, Rørstad, 坤超 (Kunchao) , bin Nan, bin Meri - Lezaun, Mayer - Võigemast, Bousquet, Trielli.

Grilled used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Shining were relying on their ability to counter-attack. Many thought Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim ought to have been awarded a penalty 16 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Sarp Nakip after a determined run through the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for team Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle to get them on. Having turned the direction of play quickly, the Shining counter attack ended as the ball carrier was brought down violently by a defender after 33 minutes. The resulting free kick was a flat shot into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and did not allow the opponents to reach the ball. As 林 (Lin) 俊桂 (Jungui) had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Grilled player a red card without batting an eyelid. Étienne Bousquet's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Shining, he bravely continued in the match. After 44 minutes Shining's Sarp Nakip contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Chow Ying Lee of Grilled was able to make an impressive rush past the sluggish Geir Rørstad, which resulted in the 1 - 0 goal. A free kick just outside of the visitors' penalty area after 44 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but Sarp Nakip got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar. With 44 minutes played, Grilled's Chow Ying Lee tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. 44 minutes in, Shining's 蔡 (Cai) 坤超 (Kunchao) received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 78 percent of possession.

Shining's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing Mazlan bin Meri to score easily from the right flank for 1 - 1. 88 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Slavcho Tzonkov came on for Qassem Madaini. Dexter Stacey was handed the Grilled captain's armband. Having just won a lot of ground following a quick turn of play, Shining were given a free kick at a sharp angle. Rather than going for the direct shot, the defence was bypassed by a few sideways passes, giving Étienne Bousquet the chance to slip through at goal. Nice teamwork! Grilled's best player was Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim. Seytek Djekshenkulov was a disappointment, however. Antonio Trielli performed admirably for Shining. Geir Rørstad on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 2.
