Grilled 2 - 2 BDSMFC
ercast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 59036 at The Cooking Pot today.
Brisko Knapp was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stephen Joos and
Rodolfo Arena. Grilled had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Dias Paes - Crkvenjakov, 俊桂 (Jungui) - Back, Kim, Pujolràs, Lefébure, Dorogan - bin Mohd Kassim, Bögengang, Ying Lee.
A 5-2-3 alignment was the formation of choice for BDSMFC. The following players had been chosen: Keng Wan - Kian Chun, 祖晖 (Zuhui), Garbicz, Mat Aris, 斯凯 (Sikai) - Palma, 冠智 (Guanzhi) - bin Mahmood, Kwang Liang, Siong Nie.
Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for BDSMFC on this day. Despite having a free kick in a decent position 32 minutes in, Grilled tried a variation that brought the ball through to the other end of the penalty area. However,
Erik Back did not manage to connect with it, as his team mates had hoped, and the ball went out. With the clock showing 33 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of BDSMFC resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
Wira bin Mahmood in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. Given a free kick at a sharp angle, Grilled went for a variation that loyal fans may recognize from training. A sideways passing move moved the defence out of position and let
Erik Back slip through on goal. No hesitation - and it's 1 - 0, 34 minutes into the game. There was concern in the stands when, at the 36 minute mark, Grilled's
Gleb Dorogan hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
Vukota Crkvenjakov received the short corner, knocked it on to
Erik Back who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post.
Yvan Lefébure couldn't do anything to stop the technically gifted
Wang Kwang Liang as he dodged past on his way to scoring a wonderful goal for BDSMFC - 1 - 1! Players in team Grilled heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Many thought
Gleb Dorogan ought to have been awarded a penalty 44 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
Teo Keng Wan after a determined run through the middle. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Grilled held the ball, with a clear 82 percent of possession.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! The coach of Grilled was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 80 minutes,
Quah Han Kok came on for
Gleb Dorogan. The goal to make it 2 - 2 was scored by
Zubir Mat Aris after 82 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by BDSMFC.
Zubir Mat Aris of BDSMFC was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 83 percent of possession.
Domenik Bögengang performed admirably for Grilled.
Quah Han Kok on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important BDSMFC player was
Lee Siong Nie.
Zubir Mat Aris turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 2.
