Edbe 2 - 0 Grilled
was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 61464 that came out to Edbe FC Arena.
Gustave Vleminckx was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Toni Ruotsi and
Önsal Karakoca. Edbe started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: 轩晶 (Xuanjing) - Froidevaux, Aagaard, Maton - Boedré, Ti Kheng, Ascot, Raadel, Majaneva - Lindeberg, bin Jantan.
Grilled decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. The following players took the field: Dias Paes - Crkvenjakov, Behr, Mausisa - Penati, Back, Dorogan, Lefébure - bin Mohd Kassim, Bögengang, Ying Lee.
Grilled were relying on their ability to counter-attack. 6 minutes into the game Grilled managed a counterattack, but
Ciro Penati took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. 14 minutes into the game,
Pierre-André Maton had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
Bukhari bin Jaafar. Edbe's
Kim Aagaard was shown a yellow card after 25 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Edbe broke through on the left 31 minutes into the game, with
Bukhari bin Jaafar firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Grilled's
Domenik Bögengang a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 40 minutes into the game. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Edbe, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.
The bench was restless, and in the 46th minute Grilled's coach gave
Kyou-Chull Kim the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
Erik Back reluctantly left the field.
Gilbert Froidevaux could have put Edbe up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 51 minutes. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Grilled's
Ciro Penati was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 60 minutes.
Quah Han Kok was given a chance to change things around. Edbe managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
Abdul Halim bin Jantan cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. The referee showed Edbe's
Janne Majaneva the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The home side's
Fabio Boedré came close to extending the lead 82 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
Valdir Dias Paes managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. After 83 minutes, Edbe's
Abdul Halim bin Jantan fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match.
Chow Ying Lee wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat.
Valdir Dias Paes was caught napping as
Fabio Boedré lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms.
Ilkka Lindeberg should probably have put his team up another goal after 89 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Valdir Dias Paes kept the visitors in the game.
Chow Ying Lee of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Edbe enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
The most dominating Edbe player was without a doubt
庞 (Pang) 轩晶 (Xuanjing) . However,
Bukhari bin Jaafar made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Valdir Dias Paes.
Kyou-Chull Kim was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 0.
