Johnny's Last Look

As pundits suspected, Scottish midfielder John MacKinnon left Grilled, nine seasons after he arrived as a 26 year-old. The Number Twelve racked up 150 competitive starts in his career with the Birds, putting him 14th in the all-time list, and also scored twenty goals.

Even at 35, the veteran enforcer precipitated a bidding tug-of-war between Israeli Division Six club beitar "barak" jerusalem and Spanish Division Eight club maeztu, with the Madrid-based side first to approach. beitar would be MacKinnon's eventual destination, however, on a half-million transfer fee.

MacKinnon sportingly wished his teammates the best as he departed The Cooking Pot for perhaps the last time. "I only regret not winning the big ones in my time in Singapore." he mused in his unchanged Scots brogue. "Hope the younger laddies will."
