Bun Collects Dough
Austrian Division Five entities SSC Samba Loca RFC won over Grilled's 18 year-old midfielder Wan Kwok-Bun in the most protracted bidding war for some months. SSC Samba Loca RFC had funds to spare after trading promising forward John Robmann and four other players earlier in the week, and went Asian in signing Kwok-Bun and Thai teenager Paisan Kittichontawat.
The eventual fee of S$384 000 was fixed after much wrangling with main competitors Derop of Deronder, a Belgian Division Six team who entered late bids. Team GoGo (Denmark Division Six), FC Olimpia Arges (Romanian Division Five), The Elven Lords (Swedish Division Three), Fall Creek Rovers (USA Division Five), maccabi raz and maccabi "nimni" tel aviv (both Israeli Division Six), Oakwood Athletic (England Division Six), Kick Meldgaards (Swedish Division Eight) and fc meli (Romanian Division Six) were the nine other clubs who had a piece of the action.
Kwok-Bun, whose trademark is his bodybuilder's physique, was informed that he just missed the grade for a stint in Grilled's reserves three days ago. If the club's finances were in a healthier state, Kwok-Bun might well have been granted more time to prove himself.
