saiNts 2 - 5 Grilled
ather conditions were fairly good for football, and saiNts James Park saw a crowd turnout of 80008.
Antonio Medel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stanislaw Marona and
Timmy Tyrell. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. saiNts had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: bin Yunus - Kok Wen, Ling-Hai, Keong Yew - Wee Sze, Nam-Quoc, Kim Chuan, Chun Kang, Hwa-Ja - Da Li, Qiang Pin.
Grilled tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Harlow - Bona, Kek-Tjiang, Falkbo - Spirig, Stanton, Jie Siong, Siu-Yue, Borup - Hjortlind, Martinsson.
saiNts clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. After 10 minutes, Grilled's
Ola Martinsson made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. 16 minutes in, saiNts's
Lü Nam-Quoc received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The visitors'
Ola Martinsson took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and central backs 29 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Grilled. 33 minutes into the game,
Jörgen Falkbo had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
Weng Seng-Huat. After 33 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Ulf Hjortlind who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 3. By now, Grilled were drawing the troops back in order to defend their lead. Grilled increased the lead to 0 - 4 as
Ola Martinsson scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in near the top left corner. This third goal made a hat trick for
Ola Martinsson. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams.
The home crowd were delighted when
Looi Da Li scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 to 4. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! After 67 minutes,
Li Qiang Pin had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for saiNts with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar.
Dani Spirig of Grilled received a yellow card after 77 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. saiNts didn't give in and with 78 minutes played
Pang Kok Wen was able to put the 2 - 4 goal away after a play on the right. An indecisive 'keeper looked on as a free kick by Grilled's
Ola Martinsson put the visitors up 2 - 5 after 81 minutes.
Shen Kek-Tjiang came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but he lifted the ball over
Ahmad Shahrul Azhar bin Yunus and it was a little too high and hit the bar. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams.
Most important saiNts player was
Lü Nam-Quoc.
Lee Wee Sze was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was
Au-Yong Siu-Yue.
Weng Seng-Huat on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 5.
