Grilled 2 - 4 Flames

e crowd of 48770 turning up at The Cooking Pot today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Walery Cichowski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Dario Palermo and Alessandro De Carlo. Grilled tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Dias Paes - Zywczyn, Lik-Tsun, Talib - Penati, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Spirig, Han Kok - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.

Flames started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Baaijens - Floerkemeier, Günzel, Wendig - Moskjær, Sukhoruchenkov, Cocksedge, bin Mohamad Nawi, Feinbier - Al-Rasheed, Marquart.

Grilled used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. 12 minutes in, the unpredictable Søren Moskjær of Flames fired a sudden long range shot that flew only inches wide of the post. The rain made it hard for players like Valentin Sukhoruchenkov to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 28 minutes allowed Omer Abbas Al-Rasheed to score the 0 - 1 goal for Flames. After 36 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed Valentin Sukhoruchenkov to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. 42 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Micha Marquart finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. At this point in the game, defending their lead became the main priority for Flames. It was a bad day for the usually speedy Detlef Feinbier. The mud seemed to slow him down. Grilled supporters cheered as good work down the right got the ball to Subri bin Ku Zainol who reduced the visitors' lead after 44 minutes to 1 - 3. With 45 minutes played, Flames's Micha Marquart fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Micha Marquart for diving. Flames's Valentin Sukhoruchenkov left the field after 45 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Aurelio Jacanamijoy. 1 - 3 was the halftime score. Flames held the ball, with a clear 54 percent of possession.

After 46 minutes, the Flames players received new instructions from their manager on how to keep in control of the game. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when Subri bin Ku Zainol, after a brilliant midfield combination through the middle, reduced the lead to 2 - 3. 65 minutes into the match, Flames's Detlef Feinbier demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to Omer Abbas Al-Rasheed who chipped it in for 2 - 4. Micha Marquart came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but he lifted the ball over Valdir Dias Paes and it was a little too high and hit the bar. Grilled's Dani Spirig managed a superb strike from the left after 82 minutes that would have left goalkeeper Frans Baaijens without a chance, had it not hit the post. 83 minutes into the game, Frans Baaijens had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Carlos María Escudero. Carlos María Escudero was handed the Flames captain's armband. Flames enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

Maikel Rotteveel performed admirably for Grilled. Sylweriusz Zywczyn turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Flames player was Omer Abbas Al-Rasheed. On the other hand, Carlos María Escudero's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 4.
