CBL 2 - 3 Grilled

ouds darkened the skies at CBL Arena as 80000 spectators turned up for the match. Lucio Quirino was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mario Sorgiovanni and Martin Drakblad. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for CBL. The following players took the field: Wahry - Pedrero, Dantas, Frascari - Sperling, van der Helm, Obermayer, Aragón Reyes, Echeandía - Ruiz, Reis.

Grilled had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Lineup: Dias Paes - Zywczyn, Lik-Tsun, Árva, Talib - Edmond, MacKinnon, Spirig, Han Kok, Paullin - Rotteveel.

CBL were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. Grilled clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a goal after 4 minutes by Alexandre Reis for CBL, putting them ahead 1 - 0. Grilled's Sylweriusz Zywczyn was shown a yellow card after 8 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 11 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Roberto Pedrero dashed through, knocking home 2 - 0 for CBL. After an industrious effort down the middle, José Bartolomé Ruiz could have closed the game off after 23 minutes, but his finishing shot hit the post. The referee showed CBL's Manuel José Echeandía the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unfortunately for Grilled, Dani Spirig was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. Peter Fjällbratt replaced him. 2 - 0 was the halftime score. CBL held the ball, with a clear 63 percent of possession.

CBL put in a good effort on the right, but Alexandre Reis saw his volley fly wide of the mark 49 minutes into the game. With 59 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, Grilled showed some good morale and were able to reduce the score to 2 - 1 when Zoltán Árva got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. John MacKinnon knocked one home from a counter-attack down the right wing, making the score 2 - 2 after 66 minutes. At 67 minutes played, Sergio Aragón Reyes came in from the right with the intention of giving CBL the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. CBL held the ball, with a clear 60 percent of possession.

As neither team was able to get the go-ahead goal before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. The counterattacks of Grilled were deadly and 92 minutes into the game, Zoltán Árva got a long pass from the right flank, making 2 - 3. This put an end to extra time, making Grilled the winners.

The most dominating CBL player was without a doubt Ludolph Obermayer. On the other hand, João Dantas's play was disheartening. Quah Han Kok performed admirably for Grilled. However, Peter Fjällbratt made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 3.
