Balestier 0 - 6 Grilled

ouds darkened the skies at Balestier Bowl as 7000 spectators turned up for the match. Vlad Rãdulescu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kurt Hildebrandt and Paul Annimäe. Balestier decided to use a 2-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: bin Md Tahar - Than-Tinh, Yat-Sau - Choong-Leo, bin Mohd Idrus, Kai-Yin, Tung-Tien - Huu-Hoan, Hidzan.

Grilled tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. They fielded: Bao-Tam - Alcántara, Bona, Talib - Ødegaard, Kek-Tjiang, Spirig, Chuan Jing - Hjortlind, bin Yaacob, Mirchev.

Grilled's Dani Spirig gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 3 minutes with a superb strike from the right. 6 minutes in, Balestier appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only inadequate. After 10 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Balestier found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to poor. After 11 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed Nawaz Talib to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. Balestier's Gao Yat-Sau got himself booked for a foul. Unfortunately for Balestier, Li Than-Tinh suffered a concussion after 22 minutes and had to be taken for tests. The coach had his head in his hands after realising he could not send a replacement onto the pitch, and the team had to continue a man short. The game had been on for 33 minutes when Ulf Hjortlind broke through on the right, upping the score for Grilled to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. The structure of the game started to change as Grilled decided to pull back and meet their opponents in their own half. With 39 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 0 - 4 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Allan Ødegaard. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 87 percent of possession.

The Balestier players spent the halftime break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organization and regained a passable organization. 56 minutes into the game, Grilled worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. 57 minutes in, Balestier appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only inadequate. 0-5 was a funny story: after 65 minutes the seemingly nonchalant lob from Grilled's Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob landed at the feet of Ivaylo Mirchev who sent it into the net - goal! 73 minutes in, Grilled's Ulf Hjortlind received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The game had been on for 76 minutes when Ivaylo Mirchev broke through on the right, upping the score for Grilled to 0 - 6, much to the home crowd's dismay. This half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 89 percent of the time.

Balestier's top performer was clearly Mohd Fauzzi bin Md Tahar. Tu Kai-Yin on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Grilled player was Nawaz Talib. However, Luis Alcántara made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 6.
