Singapore 1 - 2 Grilled
824 punters turned up at The Dome Of The White Lion, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Florian Magdeburg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Robert ''Sulan'' Jespersson and
Jorge Millán. Singapore started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Xiaolun - Khoi-Khoa, Shiu-Fai, Jie Kok, Kok-Peng - Noor Yadah, Wenghae, bin Manaf, Tegelberg - bin Md Johadi, Rodostoglou.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Starters: Abed-Sulaiman - Zywczyn, Kek-Tjiang, Fredgård, Bona - van Liere, Han Kok, Jie Siong, Spirig, Abd Hamid - Simon.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Grilled. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Grilled's
Hidde van Liere somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
Dimitri Simon, who struck for 0 - 1. The crowd was on its feet 18 minutes into the match, as Singapore's
Yin Wenghae found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser. 38 minutes into the game,
Quah Han Kok almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. With 39 minutes played, Singapore's
Jani Tegelberg fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked
Jani Tegelberg for diving. Making his way up the middle 41 minutes into the match,
Vaios Rodostoglou almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Ahmed Abed-Sulaiman blocked it to keep the score level. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Singapore held the ball, with a clear 51 percent of possession.
Many thought
Mohd Syamsuri bin Manaf ought to have been awarded a penalty shot 48 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
Ahmed Abed-Sulaiman after a determined run through the middle. Unsportsmanlike behaviour by
Jani Tegelberg rendered him his second booking of the match, and Singapore had to finish the game with a reduced squad.
Lee Jie Siong knocked one home from a counter-attack down the right wing, making the score 1 - 2 after 63 minutes. With 70 minutes played,
Dani Spirig nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. The referee showed Grilled's
Quah Han Kok the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Singapore enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Most important Singapore player was
Chew Xiaolun.
Aznan Noor Yadah on the other hand, had a terrible day. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Hidde van Liere.
Bukhari Abd Hamid turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 2.
