It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+5) level with that tactic. newbies were very close to putting themselves one up after 26 minutes as Tan Chu Chao got through on the left. However, his concentration failed him, and he shot wide. newbies took the lead 27 minutes in, as Au Kong Su broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. newbies's Li Choon An saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 28 minutes. 29 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Tan Chu Chao broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for newbies. newbies managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when Au Kong Su cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Halftime score was 3 - 0. newbies claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

Au Kong Su increased the lead for newbies to 4 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! That made three goals for Au Kong Su and he was marked down for the hat trick. newbies increased the lead as Ghani Zakwan struck to make the score 5 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. All credit to Tan Chu Chao for that clever assist. Grilled's Brian 'Was Born' Reddy lived up to his reputation for finding unexpected ways to get the ball in the net when he sent a nifty little pass over to Gandhik Chitre who finished for 5 - 1 with 57 minutes of the match played. Hein Thiha Pyae Ko of Grilled received a yellow card after 60 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Elijah Gardner should probably have put his team up another goal after 64 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Radomil Marcol kept the visitors in the game. 66 minutes into the match, Grilled's Chad Thach popped up from nowhere, cheekily stole the ball off an opposition player and scored. 5 - 2. newbies solidified their lead at the 69 minute mark, as Zhong Kim Tse dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 6 - 2. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Mohd Marzuki Khairul reluctantly made way for Mohsen El Khateeb on the pitch. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Hwang Teck Fu off the field. Paulino Trindade took his place. The referee announced 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 6 - 2. newbies had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

newbies's top performer was clearly Au Kong Su. Most important Grilled player was Gandhik Chitre.
