The spectators at the stadium today were in for an afternoon of sunshine. It was a very hot day and some players suffered from this, especially those relying on tough physical play or a lot of fast runs. For the technical ones, on the other hand, this was ideal conditions.
Gatuno's lineup was:
Beckberger -
Dravolin,
Cionca,
Chauque -
Skok,
Boelens,
清仑 (Qinglun),
Naing Aung,
Angbwa -
Hijero,
Andrukhovich.
Grilled fielded:
Marcol -
Himadas,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Kwang Tse,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Andrović -
Thach,
Chitre,
An Keng.
El Gato Monstro entered the field in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors,
Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their
divine (+7) level with that tactic. After 2 minutes of play,
Rolf Boelens gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. A well-timed setup from
Aung Naing Aung preceded the goal.
Rafael Nahuel Chauque did everything in his power to contain
Gandhik Chitre from having an impact in the game. A risky tactic, as
Rafael Nahuel Chauque was often pulled away from his starting position in the process. With 26 minutes played,
Gatuno put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Alberto Hijero, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. 32 minutes in,
Gatuno's
Mikhail Skok received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. With 33 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock,
Grilled showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 2 - 1 when
Aw Keng Chuan got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal.
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) got left behind when
Gatuno's
Rolf Boelens left scorch marks in the turf 35 minutes, finishing off with a blisteringly swift strike. 3-1!
Grilled were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 38 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to
Gandhik Chitre, who smashed it home to make the score 3 - 2. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 2.
Gatuno enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
With 59 minutes gone,
Gatuno had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
Alberto Hijero did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out. The goal to make it 3 - 3 was scored by
Chad Thach after 60 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by
Grilled. 67 minutes into the match,
Grilled nearly took the lead, as
Lim An Keng broke through on the right.
Sammy Beckberger made the save, however. After a fine move down the middle
Rolf Boelens nearly gave the home side a goal after 77 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Many thought
Boryslav Andrukhovich ought to have been awarded a penalty 78 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
Radomil Marcol after a determined run through the middle. The referee announced 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. After 90 minutes,
Grilled's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called.
Gatuno claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of
Grilled was able to get his message across, and raised
Grilled's organisation to
solid. After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
Alberto Hijero scored for
Gatuno putting them ahead 4 - 3, after 92 minutes. All credit to
Mikhail Skok for that clever assist.
Grilled tied it all up, 111 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
Darko 'Donnie' Andrović, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 4 - 4. After 119 minutes, the
Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Lim An Keng off the field.
Hein Thiha Pyae Ko took his place. 119 minutes into the game,
Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Hwang Teck Fu gave
Dimitris Germanakos a quick hug as he left the field. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty shoot-out to settle the result.
Gatuno's
Mikhail Skok was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 5 - 4!
Grilled's
Raúl Himadas made no mistake.
Sammy Beckberger didn't have a chance. 5 - 5.
Gatuno's
Aung Naing Aung showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 6 - 5.
Grilled's
Aw Keng Chuan kept his cool as he faced down
Sammy Beckberger. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 6 - 6.
Gatuno's
Domingo Angbwa coolly put the ball past
Radomil Marcol. 7 - 6.
Grilled's
Radomil Marcol showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 7 - 7.
Gatuno's
Rolf Boelens kept his cool as he faced down
Radomil Marcol. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 8 - 7.
Grilled's
Dimitris Germanakos kept his cool as he faced down
Sammy Beckberger. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 8 - 8.
Gatuno's
Rafael Nahuel Chauque was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 9 - 8! A confident
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy of
Grilled put the ball right where he wanted, but
Sammy Beckberger was right there for the save. No goal. The match ends 9 - 8.
Gatuno's top performer was clearly
Rolf Boelens.
Grilled's best player was
Chad Thach.
