The visiting Hwang Teck Fu was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 13 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 26 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty and Raúl Himadas was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 2 rolling the ball in by the right post. After 35 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Chia Kwang Tse who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 3. At the 39 minute mark, it looked like the opportunity for Grilled to score had been missed until Chad Thach suddenly worked his way clear and fired off a spectacular shot. The keeper had no chance! 0 - 4. The situation leading to Earthquakes's penalty 41 minutes into the match will be much debated after the game ends, but the competent Phua Long Feng didn't hesitate to make the score 1 - 4. 1 - 4 was the score after the first half. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.

Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
