It was a sunny day at the stadium today. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players.
Grilled's lineup was:
Marcol -
Himadas,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Khairul,
長野 (Nagano),
Teck Fu,
Andrović -
Thach,
Chitre,
An Keng.
The following players took the field for
M.C.:
Hutasoit -
Lybaert,
Burla,
Racih -
Stangl,
Novo,
Payne,
Malin,
Fretheim -
Salazar,
Nesaule.
Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors,
Manchester Cavallo, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their
divine (+5) level with that tactic. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of
M.C.'s
Anatoliy Malin after 9 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. 16 minutes in, and
Grilled were able to score the equalising goal to make it 1 - 1 when
Raúl Himadas picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. All credit to
Chad Thach for that clever assist.
Grilled made it 2 - 1 as
Raúl Himadas floated the corner kick to
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) who whipped a low drive in off the far post. The crowd was silenced 31 minutes into the match as the visiting team's
Azim 'Joker' Burla came in from the left, levelling the score to 2 - 2.
Grilled took the lead 36 minutes into the game by 3 - 2, as
Raúl Himadas elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
Erdal Racih of
M.C. received a yellow card after 40 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. After 40 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after
Aaron Payne made it through the middle and struck home to make it 3 - 3.
Martin Fretheim managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but
Gottfried Stangl was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off.
Grilled had a chance to take the lead after
Gandhik Chitre's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 42 minutes. Halftime score was 3 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by
M.C., with 51 percent of the ball.
After 46 minutes, the
Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) off the field.
Aw Keng Chuan took his place.
Darko 'Donnie' Andrović was handed the
Grilled captain's armband. The visiting
Denis Novo was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 54 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 3 - 4 was the score. After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Aureliano Salazar was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 55 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. 59 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a
M.C. substitution.
Andrea Marcotulli came on for
Aaron Payne. The crowd was on its feet 64 minutes into the match, as
Grilled's
Darko 'Donnie' Andrović found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 4 - 4 equaliser. A precise pass from
Hwang Teck Fu made the goal possible.
Radomil Marcol looked great 68 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
Aureliano Salazar. After 76 minutes,
Grilled sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
Chad Thach, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 5 - 4. 89 minutes into the game,
Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Raúl Himadas gave
Damian Hutter a quick hug as he left the field. As
Raúl Himadas left the field, the coach signaled to
元気 (Genki) 長野 (Nagano) to be the new set pieces taker. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 5 - 4.
M.C. claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.
The most dominating
Grilled player was without a doubt
Chad Thach.
M.C.'s best player was
Denis Novo.
