Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas
Marina Sailors lined up in a 5-3-2 formation.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their
divine (+7) level with that tactic. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 26 minutes,
Grilled tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish.
Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. They were singing the praises of
Lim An Keng 27 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to
Grilled. The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 29 minutes into the match after a good combination through the middle, but when
Tatos Karapetyan tried to finish the attack, he couldn't get enough power on the shot to seriously challenge the keeper. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in
Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse increasing the lead to 2 - 0. It was a fine day for
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy on his wing, his cross pass to
Aw Keng Chuan was especially delicate 36 minutes into the game, but the keeper saved.
Porter Wu fired a shot from distance after 37 minutes, but the long shot couldn't find the net for
Sailors. With 41 minutes played,
Porter Wu of
Sailors fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
Gandhik Chitre should probably have put his team up another goal after 42 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by
Antonio Caro kept the visitors in the game. It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Grilled had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.
Sailors certainly deserved a goal after some stunning play down the left, but
Mohd Akmal Hizam Khairul Hakim just wasn't able to finish.
Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
Gandhik Chitre could have increased the lead after 51 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
Grilled's
Chad Thach saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 64 minutes. With 65 minutes played,
Grilled put themselves up 3 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Mohd Marzuki Khairul, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Mario Gustavsson's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 69 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to
Ville Vähäsantanen who knocked it in for
Sailors. 3 - 1! 72 minutes into the match
Raúl Himadas put
Grilled ahead 4 - 1 with a truly marvelous free kick. As the 88 minute mark approached, the
Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Paulino Trindade reluctantly made way for
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) on the pitch.
Raúl Himadas would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Damian Hutter entered the game for
Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. With
Raúl Himadas no longer on the pitch,
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) took over free kick duty. The referee announced 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 4 - 1.
Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.
Most important
Grilled player was
Lim An Keng.
Sailors's top performer was clearly
Ville Vähäsantanen.
