Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas
Sentoza Springboks lined up in a 3-4-3 formation.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their
divine (+5) level with that tactic. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of
Springboks, taking advantage of their
magnificent level with that tactic.
Eskild Rysgaard stayed close to
Mohd Marzuki Khairul, trying to obstruct his game - and the gambit paid off for
Springboks.
Grilled had a magnificent opportunity after 16 minutes as
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy hit the ball hard from the edge of the penalty box. However, the shot went wide.
Mark Borovyk was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from
Springboks's defence 17 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 1. After 37 minutes,
Springboks raised their score by one when
Chiranjeev Muniyarayar's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
Thomas Velankar. 0 - 2. After 38 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Niels Meitil a chance to increase the lead for
Springboks, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3.
Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
Grilled refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle,
Aw Keng Chuan managed to slip the ball home for 1 - 3. The crowd groaned when
Chad Thach, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to reduce the deficit for
Grilled. The visitors'
Eskild Rysgaard took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 43 minutes into the match. 1 - 4 for
Springboks. After 44 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Chhaya Ing who increased
Springboks's lead to 1 - 5. 1 - 5 was the score after the first half.
Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
With 50 minutes played,
Raúl Himadas's free kick looked like a certain goal for
Grilled, but to his teammates' dismay, the keeper managed to tip it wide. After 70 minutes,
Chad Thach had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for
Grilled with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar. After 70 minutes, the
Springboks coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Leo Savolainen off the field.
Boyko Stoyanov took his place. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when
Hwang Teck Fu scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 2 - 5. It was obvious that team
Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 87 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it. The referee announced 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. After 89 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
Thomas Velankar to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 2 - 6. The match ends 2 - 6.
Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
Grilled's best player was
Chia Kwang Tse.
Springboks's top performer was clearly
Chiranjeev Muniyarayar.
