As the teams prepared to start the match, they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their
divine (+7) level with that tactic.
Singapore took the lead after 19 minutes as a result of
Robert Veerma's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0.
Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 31 minutes,
Mohd Marzuki Khairul broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
Tsjitse Westerlaan made a great block, though. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 33 minutes,
Singapore did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
Peh 'Predator' Da Kong was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 2 - 0.
Singapore put in a good effort on the right, but
Madhuban Singh saw his volley fly wide of the mark 34 minutes into the game.
Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home team's fans were upset when, after 37 minutes, the visiting
Paulino Trindade broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 2 - 1 was the score.
Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. After 38 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after
Lim An Keng made it through the middle and struck home to make it 2 - 2. 42 minutes into the match, the visiting
Grilled made the score 2 - 3 after
Raúl Himadas executed a perfect free kick. 2 - 3 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by
Grilled, with 53 percent of the ball.
Given a free kick in a difficult position after 48 minutes,
Singapore tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. After 63 minutes,
Grilled's
Gandhik Chitre burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 2 - 4. 71 minutes into the match,
Singapore's
David Walsh collected a ball sent down the right and put it in the back of the net, narrowing the score to 3 - 4.
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
Tsjitse Westerlaan but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. After 79 minutes,
Robert Veerma made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 4 - 4. With 83 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 5 - 4 lead as
Roman Eloidze flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
Parmeet Naik of
Singapore received a yellow card after 87 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 89 minutes into the game,
Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Raúl Himadas gave
Damian Hutter a quick hug as he left the field. As
Raúl Himadas left the field, the coach signaled to
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy to be the new set pieces taker. After 89 minutes, the
Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Mohd Marzuki Khairul off the field.
Mohsen El Khateeb took his place. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 5 - 4.
Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.
Most important
Singapore player was
Robert Veerma.
Gandhik Chitre performed admirably for
Grilled.
