Paradiso 4 - 5 Grilled

51220 spectators had found their way to Home of the Glory Paradiso, despite the heavy rain. Víctor Baldenaches was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Pierre Mercier and Salah Redha Al-Muainy. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. Paradiso's starters: Fu - Yun Qiang, Jacobsen, Yeng Eng, Lee Kim, Bozkan - Fox, Duncan - Abdul Fattah, Chung, Mohd Raimi.

Grilled's lineup was: Germanakos - Hutter, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Teck Fu, Keng Chuan, Kwang Tse, Trindade - Khairul, Chitre, An Keng.

Glory Paradiso started the game in a 5-2-3 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Paradiso clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, taking advantage of their divine (20) level with that tactic. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle. 1 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Paradiso substitution. Jose Andrés Escalante came on for Ler Yun Qiang. After 27 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Paradiso on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by Gilbert Chung to make it 1 - 0. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. 29 minutes into the game Grilled's Gandhik Chitre found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1. With 35 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as Ajwad Mohd Raimi flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Paradiso's Mah Lee Kim increased the lead to 3 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 37 minutes. The visitors got a chance to pull one back after 41 minutes, as the home defence went to sleep, leaving Chia Kwang Tse completely unmarked in the middle. His strike was pathetic though, and dribbled into the arms of the home side's keeper. Paradiso's Mah Lee Kim got himself booked for a foul. After 43 minutes, Brian 'Was Born' Reddy suffered a slight injury to his right calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. With 43 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, Grilled showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 2 when Lim An Keng got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. The referee showed Grilled's Aw Keng Chuan the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Ajwad Mohd Raimi was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his right knee after 44 minutes. This gave Jonathan Yang a chance to take to the field instead. Halftime score was 3 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 61 percent of the ball.

Paradiso put in a good effort on the right, but Mah Lee Kim saw his volley fly wide of the mark 70 minutes into the game. Grilled levelled the score after 71 minutes to make it 3 - 3, as Paulino Trindade struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. Paulino Trindade would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Chad Thach entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 75 minutes. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 76 minutes in when Brian 'Was Born' Reddy came up alone against Ang Fu who managed a block. Ramón Fox finished off the counterattack of Paradiso from the left rather easily, making the score 4 - 3. 79 minutes in, Grilled's Brian 'Was Born' Reddy received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Grilled had a chance to level the scores as Chad Thach suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. Grilled tied it all up, 84 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by Gandhik Chitre, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 4 - 4. Grilled's Gandhik Chitre gave the visitors a 4 - 5 lead after 86 minutes with a superb strike from the right. That made three goals for Gandhik Chitre and he was marked down for the hat trick. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Damian Hutter reluctantly made way for Hong Kang Leong on the pitch. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Gandhik Chitre gave Teo Chuan Yong a quick hug as he left the field. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 5. Grilled had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

Paradiso's top performer was clearly Jonathan Yang. Ang Fu turned in a dismal performance, however. Lim An Keng performed admirably for Grilled. Teo Chuan Yong on the other hand, had a terrible day.
