Grilled 6 - 2 Regency

The crowd of 57509 turning up at The Cooking Pot today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Regin á Borg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Aigor Toom and Jerome Roberts. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. Grilled fielded: Germanakos - Kang Leong, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Teck Fu, Keng Chuan, Kwang Tse, Trindade - Khairul, Chitre, An Keng.

The following players had been chosen by Regency: Lim - Garcés, Sirkka, van de Edelweiß - Pfann, Ponzio, Bak, Milivojević, Beresņevs - Schmuecker, Rötsch.

Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Bukit Regency, the formation of choice was 3-5-2. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+9) (29) level with that tactic. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Regency, taking advantage of their excellent (8) level with that tactic. The terraces were silenced after 2 minutes when Regency's Mark Bak put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. Regency's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The crowd roared in delight as Gandhik Chitre finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Grilled 36 minutes into the match. 1 - 1. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Jakob van de Edelweiß from Regency a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for Paulino Trindade to score after 41 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Cornelis Pfann was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but Elmārs Beresņevs seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 42 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Mohd Marzuki Khairul, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

Cheers filled the stadium as Gandhik Chitre broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Grilled. Some things can only be learned through experience, and 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Regency a goal with 64 minutes of the match played. Hong Kang Leong increased Grilled's lead to 4 - 1 with a penalty spot cannonball. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Hong Kang Leong gave Damian Hutter a quick hug as he left the field. As Hong Kang Leong left the field, the coach signaled to Aw Keng Chuan to be the new set pieces taker. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Paulino Trindade reluctantly made way for Chad Thach on the pitch. At the 78 minute mark, it looked like the opportunity for Grilled to score had been missed until Chad Thach suddenly worked his way clear and fired off a spectacular shot. The keeper had no chance! 5 - 1. Grilled made it 6 - 1 as Hwang Teck Fu got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to Brian 'Was Born' Reddy who whipped a low drive in off the far post. Aw Keng Chuan almost put Grilled ahead another goal when he curled a free kick over the defensive wall and almost into the net, but the visitors' keeper got there just in time to knock it wide. Aw Keng Chuan's curling free kick almost found the goal for Grilled, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it. Elmārs Beresņevs showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Regency after 86 minutes to make the score 6 - 2. Gandhik Chitre would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Chan Ze Han entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. With 90 minutes played, Chad Thach could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. The match ends 6 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.

Grilled's best player was Mohd Marzuki Khairul. However, Chan Ze Han made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Regency player was without a doubt Aleksa Milivojević. On the other hand, Kenneth Lim's play was disheartening.
