It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 4-5-1 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3.
Robert Veerma caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 2 minutes. This gave Singapore the 1 - 0 lead. The visiting team's
Mohd Marzuki Khairul was able to score the 1 - 1 equaliser with a header 14 minutes into the match, after some good work on the right. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Robert Veerma, but the Singapore player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! Singapore solidified their lead at the 17 minute mark, as
Roman Eloidze dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 1. After 19 minutes
Hwang Teck Fu seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Grilled making it 3 - 2.
Chia Kwang Tse always provides an aerial threat at corners, and with 33 minutes gone, he demonstrated this, outjumping his marker, then letting out an anguished howl as his powerful header went narrowly wide. Grilled were close to putting the equaliser away after 35 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line. Halftime score was 3 - 2. Possession was split evenly between the teams.
After 49 minutes, Singapore's
Roman Eloidze swiftly ran past
Hong Kang Leong and nutmegged the keeper! 4 - 2. Grilled kept trying to force their way through on the right side and
Gandhik Chitre got his chance after 74 minutes, but the home side's defence held their position and stopped the attack. The crowd roared its approval when
Tsjitse Westerlaan somehow managed to block a shot which seemed to be a certain goal by Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse 77 minutes into the game, following a good move through the middle.
Chad Thach would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Paulino Trindade entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Hong Kang Leong gave
Damian Hutter a quick hug as he left the field. With
Hong Kang Leong no longer on the pitch,
Aw Keng Chuan took over free kick duty. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Gandhik Chitre reluctantly made way for
Bilal Mohammad Harun on the pitch. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. Grilled fought on and, after 89 minutes,
Mohd Marzuki Khairul was able to reduce the deficit to 4 - 3 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip. The match ends 4 - 3. Singapore enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.
Most important Singapore player was
Robert Veerma.
Badico Gaudério turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Mohd Marzuki Khairul.
Bilal Mohammad Harun was a disappointment, however.
