Arcturules 7 - 1 Grilled

68000 punters turned up at Arcturus Starworks, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Ireneusz Komajda was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Claudio Janus and Boris Aysen. The following players had been chosen by Arcturules: van Weelie - 長野 (Nagano), Jamal, Dobschütz - Foniqi, Jayatissa, Hyvärinen, El Bacha, Najdoski - Stighult, Chee Da.

Grilled's lineup was: Germanakos - Hutter, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Teck Fu, Keng Chuan, Kwang Tse, Trindade - Thach, Khairul, An Keng.

Arcturules started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Grilled, taking advantage of their excellent (8) level with that tactic. See how Damian Hutter has had to abandon his regular position to follow Jouko Hyvärinen around? That leaves a big gap for his mates to cover! After 19 minutes, Ray Jayatissa came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Arcturules the lead. Arcturules were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 22 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by Jouko Hyvärinen. 2 - 0 for the home side. Arcturules solidified their lead at the 23 minute mark, as Choy Chee Da dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0. Cheers filled the stadium as Choy Chee Da broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Arcturules. The visitors' right side was dangerous today; Brian 'Was Born' Reddy made the home team's keeper look foolish as he easily scored to reduce the lead to 4 - 1 39 minutes into the match. 41 minutes in, Arcturules's Klaus Dobschütz received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It was 4 - 1 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Arcturules, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

Arcturules put themselves up 5 - 1 when Alf Stighult broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. At this time in the match, Grilled were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Ognen Najdoski squirmed through their central defence after 65 minutes, increasing the lead to 6 - 1. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Arcturules coach decided it was time for a substitution. Jouko Hyvärinen reluctantly made way for Tay Chao Hao on the pitch. Jouko Hyvärinen was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that Alf Stighult got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. Boom! What a strike by Arcturules's Maher El Bacha! Firing in from 35 yards after 72 minutes, that is probably one of the best goals he's ever scored! 7 - 1. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The home side's Alf Stighult came close to extending the lead 89 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but Dimitris Germanakos managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. The match ends 7 - 1. Arcturules enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.

Choy Chee Da performed admirably for Arcturules. Nabeel Jamal turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt Mohd Marzuki Khairul. Damian Hutter was a disappointment, however.
