Grilled 8 - 0 Coco

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 81749 at The Cooking Pot today. Rodrigo Carlos Mendes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Włodzimierz Krawczykowski and Nadim Carron. Grilled fielded: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Teck Fu, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Parada - Thach, Chitre, An Keng.

Coco's starters: Harrison - Jing Chin, Daniel, Shun Yeow, Guang Kum, Boon Loong - Cheng Yeow, Min Beng, Quach, Hidayat, Ah Xin -.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Coco FC lined up in a 5-5-0 formation. Going for long shots seemed to be the pick of the day for Coco, taking advantage of their weak (4) level with that tactic. They were singing the praises of Lim An Keng 4 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Grilled. 9 minutes in, Coco's Ang Ah Xin received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Chad Thach squirmed through their central defence after 19 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Grilled to 3 - 0 as Lim An Keng finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. Cheers filled the stadium as Chad Thach broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Grilled. Against a lesser team, Grilled could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 32 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Federico Parada was unable to continue, following a severe injury to his left knee, 33 minutes into the match. Paulino Trindade tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. As Federico Parada exited the field, Aw Keng Chuan volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. 4 - 0 was the halftime score. Grilled had most of the ball, with 85 percent of possession.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Li Shun Yeow got himself booked. The manager of Coco was not happy. 55 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Gandhik Chitre broke through, making the score 5 - 0 for Grilled. Grilled's Brian 'Was Born' Reddy was shown a yellow card after 57 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Brian 'Was Born' Reddy increasing the lead to 6 - 0. After 65 minutes, Aw Keng Chuan sent the corner kick right to Chia Kwang Tse who headed it sharply past the keeper. 7 - 0! Gandhik Chitre could have increased the lead after 66 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Grilled's Hwang Teck Fu increased the lead to 8 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 70 minutes. Grilled's Gandhik Chitre swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. Having turned the direction of play quickly, the Coco counter attack ended as the ball carrier was brought down violently by a defender after 72 minutes. The resulting free kick was a flat shot into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and did not allow the opponents to reach the ball. Mohd Marzuki Khairul left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Teo Chuan Yong was the replacement. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let Chan Ze Han replace Hwang Teck Fu after 89 minutes. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 8 - 0. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 86 percent.

Most important Grilled player was Lim An Keng. On the other hand, Teo Chuan Yong's play was disheartening. Coco's best player was Michael Harrison. Li Shun Yeow on the other hand, had a terrible day.
