The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Grilled Birds went for 2-5-3 while Sporting Reifeles has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. Sporting tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic.
Gústav Thoroddsen caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 3 minutes. This gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead. It emerged that
Teoh Kok Ho had hurt his left foot after 4 minutes, which led him to abandon the game.
Bakhtiar Fathi had already been warming up, and came on for
Teoh Kok Ho. With 11 minutes played,
Phua Ming Xin could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Cheers filled the stadium as
Lim An Keng broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Grilled. Grilled's
Phua Ming Xin increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 16 minutes.
Chia Kwang Tse unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 71 percent of the time.
As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan reluctantly made way for
Federico Parada on the pitch. After 47 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
Chia Kwang Tse gave the Grilled supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Grilled to 5 - 0 as
Orest Tokarz finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
Helmi Najmussabah would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Chase Nguyen entered the game for Sporting as the match clock showed 55 minutes. As
Helmi Najmussabah exited the field,
Ben Doan volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 6 - 0 when
Federico Parada cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. One of many good crosses from
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
Gústav Thoroddsen, who scored for Grilled. 7 - 0
Lim An Keng should probably have put his team up another goal after 76 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by
Wu Meng Eng kept the visitors in the game. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Orest Tokarz off the field.
Chan Ze Han took his place. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chia Kwang Tse gave
Gandhik Chitre a quick hug as he left the field. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match!
Chan Ze Han had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 90 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. The match ends 7 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 73 percent of possession.
Grilled's best player was
Gústav Thoroddsen.
Damian Hutter was a disappointment, however. Most important Sporting player was
Ben Doan.
Bakhtiar Fathi turned in a dismal performance, however.
