Cooked By Chievo
Ferenc-Güceren Game
The Grilled reserves' weekly crushing came at the hands of Israeli side A..C. Chievo, who were lively in their uniform of all yellow with blue sleeves. There were some concerns over security before the game began, but when it did, Chievo wasted no time in asserting their superiority.
Polish centreback Lucjan Bubel was an unlikely candidate to break the deadlock, which on hindsight was not that unlikely given the way the hosts flooded Grilled's area. Goals then came in bursts for the hosts, with close-range goals by Altan Güceren and Ferenc Major in the 27th and 28th minutes, repeated just before half-time.
In keeping with the pattern, the terrible duo did it again in the second half, with more spacing between their goals. Güceren completed his hat-trick first, as he breezed past a stumped Seng-Huat and placed the ball wide of Bao-Tam in the 47th minute.
Grilled then regrouped and played some passable defence, holding out grimly for about twenty-five minutes before Huihong abandoned his post. Jianyong doggedly shadowed the Hungarian Major as he sped inside the box, but was a step too slow to prevent Major from edging a boot towards Damiani's pinpoint pass.
The Birds got a sniff at a consolation, but Mohd Firdaus couldn't keep his composure after a bad slip by a Chievo midfielder was pounced on by Badrul, who instinctively played the ball right to his striker. Now clear on goal, Firdaus simply had to put it either side of Davidovich, but didn't even test the local goalie as he crashed it into the outside of the net.
Arnaldo Grazioli, Meni Zeevi and the Dutch MarkPaul van Ettekoven then put the sorry Birds to the sword with three goals in the closing ten minutes.
