It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 5-2-3. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+5) (25) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. Like the adage After 6 minutes, Football raised their score by one when
Roberto 'Eagle' Alviso's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
Benito 'B.B. King' Bazoli. 0 - 1. After 18 minutes,
Evandro La Face got through on the right and was very close to equalizing for the home side, but he didn't get the shot right and it rolled just past the far post. The referee showed Football's
Floreal 'Margarita' Mina the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Grilled put pressure on the visitors' central defense with 25 minutes played, but
Gústav Thoroddsen couldn't find an opening. Football caught their opponents out with a clever counter-attack down the right wing 26 minutes into the game.
Roberto 'Eagle' Alviso was there to finish off the move - 0 - 2! The home crowd was briefly mollified when
Gústav Thoroddsen reduced the lead to 1 - 2 after a brilliant midfield give-and-go through the middle. 28 minutes into the game,
Chia Kwang Tse came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 88 percent possession in this half was spot on!
A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Grilled, but
Phua Ming Xin's shot went over the bar.
Emiliano 'Curioso' Tonati stunned the crowd with a brilliant counter-attack from the left, giving Football the goal to make it 1 - 3. At 57 minutes into the game, Grilled's
Phua Ming Xin cooly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 2 - 3. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 60 minutes on the clock after
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though.
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) got left behind when Football's
Marco 'Hairspray' Ammazzalorso made a sudden rush forward in minute 69, finishing it off with a clinical strike. 2 - 4! After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Chad Thach off.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul took his place. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) tried lifting the ball over keeper
Bruno 'Armonica' Lo Fria. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar.
Benito 'B.B. King' Bazoli of Football received a yellow card after 84 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Evandro La Face reluctantly made way for
Orest Tokarz. Grilled's
Orest Tokarz sliced towards the middle after 86 minutes, receiving a sensational pass and carving through the visiting team's central defense, putting the goal away to make it 3 - 4. After 87 minutes, Football began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. The fourth official announced that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse came in from the right after 90 minutes and put the ball in the net to even the score at 4 - 4. The match ends 4 - 4. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Most important Grilled player was
Gústav Thoroddsen. Good thing
Dimitris Germanakos isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Football's best player was
Bruno 'Armonica' Lo Fria. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Oldar 'High Voltage' Hêmin seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
