Grilled 3 - 4 Caps

Due to an all-day shower, the spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players took the field: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Trindade - Reece, Thoroddsen, Tokarz.

They fielded: Bossin - Pipeta, Abdoulhaniou, Grøndal - Hersberger, Million, Vakaričič, Clarke, Vilotić - Pulić, Pigliapoco.

Grilled Birds trundled out to the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, AC Cap's, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+4) (24) ability to great effect. It was an obvious ambition of Caps to play a wide game with their divine (+2) (22) ability to attack down the wings. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 4 minutes into the match left Caps's Mario Pigliapoco completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors. Grilled's Joe Reece was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 8 minutes. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. Mohd Marzuki Khairul pulled a rabbit out of his hat as he wove through the guest's entire central defense and put the 1 - 1 equalizer away after 16 minutes. It was obvious that Caps had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. Oh dear - the keeper's made a mess of that one. The crowd was very disappointed after he let Quentin Hersberger get the go-ahead goal with a speculative shot from the right after 32 minutes. 1 - 2. With 35 minutes played, Grilled's Mohd Marzuki Khairul received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. The game had been going for 36 minutes when Darko Pulić broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 3 for Caps, much to the home crowd's dismay. Caps's coach was furious with Kaíke Pipeta after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. At 38 minutes into the game, Grilled's 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) cooly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 2 - 3. 2 - 3 was the halftime score. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! Quentin Hersberger increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 2 - 4. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by Quentin Hersberger beat the keeper with 65 minutes played, preventing Caps from going up another goal. The referee showed Caps's Darko Pulić the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Orest Tokarz reluctantly made way for Evandro La Face. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 70 minutes, Grilled tried a variation that they had practiced in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper, however, the defense were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. By working their way through the middle, Grilled refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to Chad Thach managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 3 - 4. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Gústav Thoroddsen off. Phua Ming Xin took his place. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. After 89 minutes, Paulino Trindade got through on the right and was very close to equalizing for the home side, but he didn't get the shot right and it rolled just past the far post. The match ends 3 - 4. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 58 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Brian 'Was Born' Reddy. I can't remember Dimitris Germanakos ever having a worse night than he just had. The most outstanding Caps player was without a doubt Darko Pulić. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Kaíke Pipeta seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
