Grilled 5 - 5 Mansochy

Weather conditions were pretty good for football today. The following players took the field: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Trindade - Reece, Thoroddsen, Tokarz.

Lineup: Šenk - Boroi, Kurzawski - Gritli, Bustos, Soares, Shuman, Krúž - Vike, Atallah, Wegelius.

The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Chad Thach gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! The visitors didn't give in and, after 37 minutes, Pierre Atallah got through the home side's central line of defense, rolling in the leveling goal to make it 1 - 1. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Pierre Atallah slipped through the left defense to come up alone against Dimitris Germanakos, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning-fast reflexes. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Mohd Marzuki Khairul, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! Grilled managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when Gústav Thoroddsen slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 3 - 1 was the score after the first half. Mansochy did a good job holding on to the ball, with 51 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Orest Tokarz increased Grilled's lead to 4 - 1, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. 54 minutes in, an amazing pass from the left side resulted in a golden chance for the visitors. Awad Hussain Shuman was up to the task and scored, bringing them up to 4 - 2. With 62 minutes gone, Mansochy replied and reduced the lead to 4 - 3. Franciszek Kurzawski scored after a marvelous cross from the left. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Orest Tokarz off. Evandro La Face took his place. 78 minutes had passed when Grilled put themselves up 5 - 3 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to Aw Keng Chuan, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. The referee showed Mansochy's Matti Wegelius the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Feeling like a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time, the inexperienced Grilled struggled to maintain their level of play after 79 minutes. Mansochy managed to reduce their deficit as John Vike finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the home team's defense after 82 minutes. The crowd was silenced 83 minutes into the match as the visiting team's Preto Bustos came in from the left, tying the game up at 5 - 5. 85 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Gústav Thoroddsen gave Phua Ming Xin a quick hug as he left the field. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 4 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 5 - 5. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 51 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Most important Grilled player was Brian 'Was Born' Reddy. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Dimitris Germanakos seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Mansochy's top performer was clearly Pierre Atallah. I can't remember Drahomír Šenk ever having a worse night than he just had.
