Grilled Birds trundled out to the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, SuparSporting, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+3) (23) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, SuparSporting's
Edgar Van de Moortel finally got himself booked for a foul. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 24 minutes into the match, and
Juul Beeckman wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
Laurent Lecacheur was, after 27 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper
Dimitris Germanakos made the save. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park.
Chad Thach made a superb effort after 35 minutes after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second to preserve the away lead. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 37 minutes into the game,
Chad Thach came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar. Grilled tried to even things up by sending a long ball through the middle, but the visitors' defense easily read the pass. Halftime score was 0 - 1. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. After 52 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed
Abdulbaqy Abdulhadi Al-Rahby to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul challenged the visitors' central defense eagerly, producing a good chance 61 minutes into the game as he raced for a through ball. But, like so many times before, the guests' defensive positioning was just too good. After 65 minutes, the SuparSporting coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Patrizio Haj off.
John Bermeo took his place. Grilled's
Mohd Marzuki Khairul managed a superb strike from the left after 79 minutes that would have left goalkeeper
Leendert Beuselinck without a chance, had it not hit the post. 81 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Gústav Thoroddsen chased down a ball sent down the right and put it into the back of the net, narrowing the score to 1 - 2. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 1 - 2. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! Grilled's best player was
Gústav Thoroddsen. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Dimitris Germanakos seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Laurent Lecacheur performed admirably for SuparSporting. I can't remember
Pier Federico Garofoli ever having a worse night than he just had.
