The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Grilled Birds, went for a 2-5-3, while FC Indy has decided to play a 5-5-0 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+3) (23) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Indy used their mythical (17) ability to focus on getting players in position for long range shots. Making his way up the middle after 6 minutes,
Phua Ming Xin almost managed to sneak a goal past the visitors' keeper, but
Amaro Lontra was ready and blocked it to keep the score level. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Indy's
Göran Borgblad finally got himself booked for a foul. It was a fine day for
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy down the touchline, and his cross to
Paulino Trindade 11 minutes in was executed especially well, but the keeper saved the ensuing shot. Indy's
Orhan Ramiz was shown a yellow card after 20 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
After 27 minutes, the defensive line of Indy created a counter-attack through the middle that gave
Adrien Thomas a good look at goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. 35 minutes into the game
Chad Thach could see that the opposing goalie was out of position and tried an unexpected chip that the keeper just barely reached. The rebound went to
Evandro La Face who failed to hit the target. My oh my, what a goal! The defenders were expecting another pass up the field, but
Ismail Shiyam passed back to
Bedřich Polák instead, who then took a stunning shot from 35 yards. He knew exactly where that one was going, as it bounced in off the crossbar to make it 0 - 1 after 36 minutes. Grilled's
Phua Ming Xin was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 40 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 57 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Phua Ming Xin off.
Joe Reece took his place. A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Grilled, but
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai)'s shot went over the bar. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The crowd roared in delight as
Chia Kwang Tse finished off a spectacular series of plays up the middle to even the score for Grilled after 68 minutes. 1 - 1. After a fine move down the middle
Chad Thach nearly put the home side one up with 70 minutes played. His final touch escaped him though and the keeper smothered the ball.
Chia Kwang Tse is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Grilled has taken the lead 71 minutes into the match, 2 to 1. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chad Thach gave
Gandhik Chitre a quick hug as he left the field. With the clock showing 89 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Hwang Teck Fu, though he would have liked to continue. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! After 89 minutes, Grilled began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. The match ends 2 - 1. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Grilled's best player was
Chia Kwang Tse. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Dimitris Germanakos seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Amaro Lontra performed admirably for Indy. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Hazmirul Alim today.
