Opium focused on finding shooting opportunities from distance and after 8 minutes Andy Brehme fired off the big cannon, but the shot went sailing over the cross bar and almost cleared the stands! Opium's Klaus Fischer had a good first touch on the flank, but was quickly closed down so he crossed to Karlheinz Förster who somehow managed to curl the ball wide. With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 50 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. With the scoreboard showing that 59 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after Gústav Thoroddsen came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
