It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3.
Joe Reece let loose a good shot after 5 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. With 12 minutes played, Nelas's
Fabrice Wullschleger received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. Oh dear - the keeper's made a mess of that one. The crowd was very disappointed after he let
Chia Kwang Tse get the go-ahead goal with a speculative shot from the right after 13 minutes. 0 - 1. Nelas's
Banele Ramahanoe rushed past his defender and should have scored, but the finish was just wide, taking some paint off the post as it went out. Grilled came close to extending their lead as
Phua Ming Xin delivered a low effort on goal from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot was destined for the side netting.
Cino Vendrame got a fingertip on
Phua Ming Xin's shot from the left 31 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Gústav Thoroddsen came on for
Phua Ming Xin. With 46 minutes played, the Nelas coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
Vladimír Štos came on and
Julius Gandrup had to leave the fray. It was a fine day for
Vladimír Štos down the touchline, and his cross to
Xavier de Mas 48 minutes in was executed especially well, but the keeper saved the ensuing shot. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by
Gústav Thoroddsen beat the keeper with 56 minutes played, preventing Grilled from going up another goal. The bench was restless, and with 62 minutes gone Nelas's coach gave
Silambarasan Shetty the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes.
Ben-Zion Fargion reluctantly left the field. With 66 minutes played, Nelas's
Fabrice Wullschleger made a rush down the left, leaving him free to put the 1 - 1 equalizer away. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Orest Tokarz reluctantly made way for
Evandro La Face. After 78 minutes, Grilled put themselves up 1 - 2, as
Evandro La Face finished off a play from the left with a real rocket.
Gústav Thoroddsen somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 1 - 3. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Hwang Teck Fu gave
Teo Chuan Yong a quick hug as he left the field. After 81 minutes, the Nelas coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Sebastiaan Hemelrijk off.
Henri Bioret took his place. With the match clock reading 81 minutes, the inexperienced Grilled team fell into disarray. With 82 minutes played,
Gústav Thoroddsen nearly put the visitors up by one more as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot whizzed just over the bar. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 1 - 3. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! Nelas's top performer was clearly
Cristi Rarău. I can't remember
Vladimír Štos ever having a worse night than he just had. Most important Grilled player was
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Dimitris Germanakos seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
