Whaga 6 - 6 Grilled

It was a scorching day at the stadium today. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. The following players had been selected: Šahbegović - Prummer, Barre, Hadadeen - Bäcklind, Bäcklind, Babazhanov, Pombo Páramo, Silfwerstad - El Shaeri, Hagelsten.

The following players took the field: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, Hutter - Ferzan, Thach, An Keng, Khairul, Trindade - Reece, Ming Xin, Tokarz.

Wettershaga International trundled out to the pitch in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+3) (23) ability to attack in the middle today. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. Grilled took the lead 2 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. Lim An Keng was the scorer. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. Grilled's Chad Thach received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 4 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 0 - 2. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Whaga's Jerry Silfwerstad finally got himself booked for a foul. The home club's fans got back into the match when Alexis Barre broke through the visitors' central defense and caught their keeper napping, making it 1 - 2. The referee showed Grilled's Phua Ming Xin the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 26 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because Lim An Keng had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. The visitors' Phua Ming Xin took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 32 minutes into the match. 1 - 3 for Grilled. Whaga supporters found their voice 33 minutes in as good work down the right got the ball to Alexander Prummer who reduced the visitors' lead to 2 - 3. It was 2 - 3 at the break. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Whaga's Mustafa El Shaeri put his head on a fantastic ball lifted in from the left, and scored after 64 minutes to bring the teams level - 3 - 3. 67 minutes into the game, technical Thomas Hagelsten of Whaga scored to make it 4 - 3, having made Lim An Keng look like a complete fool. The visitors' Paulino Trindade was alert on a play coming in from the left, evening things up at 4 - 4 after 74 minutes. Whaga took the lead 80 minutes in, as Bakytzhan Babazhanov broke through on the left and put his shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper, bringing the score to 5 - 4. Some lightning fast dribbles by Santiago Pombo Páramo left Lim An Keng way behind after 81 minutes, but the shot was just wide. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. Grilled leveled the score after 84 minutes to make it 5 - 5, as Lim An Keng struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. The visiting Damian Hutter was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 85 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 5 - 6 was the score. Bakytzhan Babazhanov pulled a rabbit out of his hat as he wove through the guest's entire central defense and put the 6 - 6 equalizer away after 86 minutes. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 6 - 6. Neither team was controlling possession at this point in the match.

Mustafa El Shaeri performed admirably for Whaga. Speaking of stinking up the place, Alexis Barre sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Grilled's best player was Chad Thach. I can't remember Damian Hutter ever having a worse night than he just had.
