Krattene 1 - 3 Grilled

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 33245 to Lau Pa Sat Stadium. Ernesto Oliveira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Heiner Pringsheim and Eligio Mendoza. It was a very hot day and some players suffered from this, especially those relying on tough physical play or a lot of fast runs. For the technical ones, on the other hand, this was ideal conditions. The following players took the field for Krattene: Vang - 伟发 (Weifa), Pleslić, Gigante, Bosatra, Woodtli - Siong Qiang, Leng Ping, Amich, Caymax - Mohd Syamsuddin.

Grilled's lineup was: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Parada - Thoroddsen, Reece, Tokarz.

Krattene fielded a 5-4-1 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Krattene were relying on their titanic (15) ability to counter-attack. With 5 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to Joe Reece he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 1. 27 minutes into the game, Grilled worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. With 30 minutes played, Chia Kwang Tse nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. With the clock showing 31 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Krattene resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by Zakariyya Mohd Syamsuddin in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. Federico Parada's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Gústav Thoroddsen was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Grilled. 0 - 2. Rudy Vang got a fingertip on Gústav Thoroddsen's shot from the left 40 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. Krattene had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 41 minutes, but 温 (Wen) 伟发 (Weifa)'s shot from the left sailed high over the bar. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.

46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Paulino Trindade came on for Federico Parada. Federico Parada was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that Aw Keng Chuan got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. Gústav Thoroddsen would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Phua Ming Xin entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes. Good work by the Krattene defensive line after 73 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found Koh Siong Qiang alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. After 74 minutes of game time, Orest Tokarz had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but Rudy Vang was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. After 75 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Krattene on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by Kwek Leng Ping to make it 1 - 2. Chia Kwang Tse increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 1 - 3. Orest Tokarz was, after 79 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper Rudy Vang made the save. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Aw Keng Chuan gave Damian Hutter a quick hug as he left the field. As Aw Keng Chuan exited the field, Phua Ming Xin volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. The referee showed Krattene's Kwek Leng Ping the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Damian Hutter slowly got up on his feet, clutching his right thigh, but eventually signalled that he was ready to play on. The referee announced 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. Rudy Vang kept the home side in the game with a magnificent save when Phua Ming Xin delivered an almost perfect free kick to the far post. The match ends 1 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.

Procopio Gigante performed admirably for Krattene. However, Rudy Vang made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's best player was Brian 'Was Born' Reddy. Damian Hutter on the other hand, had a terrible day.
