It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-4-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. Gombak's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their world class (13) ability to break on the counter whenever possible. Grilled used their divine (+1) (21) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. The visiting
Chia Kwang Tse was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 3 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. The referee signaled a penalty 17 minutes into the game following a foul that was right on the line.
Federico Parada knocked it home to make the score 0 - 2. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 23 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because
Joe Reece had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. The visitors'
Chia Kwang Tse took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 35 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Grilled. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead.
Damian Hutter came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over
Kirilos Arsenikos just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. It was 0 - 3 at the break. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says By working their way through the middle, Gombak refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to
Sohrab Merdasi managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 3. After 57 minutes Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal from a penalty taken by
Federico Parada, but the keeper made an unbelievable save. The counter-attacks of Gombak were deadly and 58 minutes into the game,
Maurizio Carella controlled a long pass from the right flank and finished to make it 2 - 3. The home team's task just got even harder after
Federico Parada buried the penalty kick. Grilled lead 2 - 4 after 60 minutes. After 74 minutes, Grilled's
Orest Tokarz burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 2 - 5. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Chia Kwang Tse reluctantly made way for
Chad Thach. Grilled's
Joe Reece received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 78 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 2 - 6. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! Gombak had a brilliant opportunity to reply as
Rambod Eftekhari received a high ball from the right and hit it on the bounce.
Dimitris Germanakos's reflexes induced groans from the home crowd, though. With the clock showing 89 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Lim An Keng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Hwang Teck Fu, though he would have liked to continue. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Joe Reece gave
Gandhik Chitre a quick hug as he left the field. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 6. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 59 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Gombak's top performer was clearly
Rambod Eftekhari. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Kirilos Arsenikos seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's best player was
Mohd Marzuki Khairul. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Damian Hutter today.
